wall-hanging exhibit

This show was held in an industrial part of a neighboring town, and I needed to drive a ways out in order to bring my piece in and hang it in the exhibition space.

The biggest challenge I had was in getting the layout and order right. Hanging it worked out as usual; I'd tested it in my studio (the one I had at the time) and decided how I wanted it to hang on the wall. At the exhibition space, I needed to recreate this layout. Because the piece was an assembly of multiple smaller pieces, I had to find each one and arrange them all in order. I also had to get the circular shape right.

It took me about 45 minutes to install. The nice thing about this was that I got to take in the ambient coming and going of other artists dropping off their work, which was pleasant.

It was a little embarrassing to be there hanging my work in front of other people, as I tend not to like sharing work that I haven't finished yet. This is something I'm pushing myself to get over by showing paintings in process, not just the finished result.

This wall assembly is made of ceramic pieces I hand-formed, bisqued in a kiln, and then hand-painted. I didn't fire them again, in order to protect the type of metallic paint I used.

More accurately, I just started painting and am learning as I go.
