I'm giving away free prints of my work from Big Bend National Park. The first time I visited, I was surprised by the changes in the land as I went further in.
The Chihuahua Desert has a lot of plant and animal diversity. A book project I started on the area revealed to me that most of the native plants growing here have multiple uses. From plants you can make a hairbrush out of to medicines for a range of ailments, the Big Bend of Texas might have been a good decision after all for surviving the zombie apocalypse. ;)
I bought land here in 2021 and relocated from my last locale, Los Angeles, in January of 2022. I'm not from L.A., but I ended up there for 4 years, and I'm glad for the experience because the stereotypes are false; it's a beautiful, socially intelligent place with a big growing season and great climate.
Where I live now it's very hot in the summers and freezes in the winter time. So the growing window is different, and a handful of plants I adore can't survive in my new home. But a variety of plants can, and as a gardener and landscape designer that is important to me.
So naturally, as an artist, I figured why not depict this area? We get a large number of tourists, 600K last year; and I wanted to make something they could take home to remember their visit.
This is one from my collection. I named it Yucca and Goldenlight, and it sold well when I was the guest artist at Earth and Fire Gallery last year. It's one of the free prints I'm offering to get my art out into the world, now that I've settled down and am actually producing work after school.
